Taking an approach, before I read this chapter, I thought that Joseph Harris is going to teach us some more writing skills.And I feel like I really admire him, how could he summed up so many writing skills and rules.And when I began to read this chapter, and then I feel like Harris is trying to summarize up the previous three chapters and also add something new.He defines “Taking an approach” as using a variety of writing skills flexibility and also point out that when we were writing we should not limited in these original materials the more important thing is that we use our own words to write our own articles. And the main idea of this chapter is how to use these three techniques properly and beautifully,as well as your own opinion for sure.

And the example that Harris gave us in this chapter about cover the song explain writing in varying degrees.When we cover the song.We want to sing in our own ways by our unique voice, no one want to follow original song tone by tone, pitch by pitch. We only used the lyrics and the melody.

Okay, so it seems like a lot of big things happened in these days, the whole world is never going to be idle, one of the biggest things happened several days ago is that the North Korea announced that the unclear program has successfully tested. Boom!!That is the biggest global news!! This information influenced the whole world a lot. And different words mixed with different attitudes come over from different parts of the world, and the news i’m going to rewrite is an article about the attitude of China after North Korea successfully conducted a nuclear test, and see what did and what will China do to response to its “wayward ally”.

About countering, So what Harris gave us the idea of countering is sort of related on the forwarding part, in the forwarding part, Harris describes academic writing as a kind of conversation, kind of start with introduction and in the main part of our academic papers there always start with a part of quotes.Those quotes help author much easier to state their opinions, some times authors just use these quotes as an argument, they quote first and then disagree with those quotes from articles before and list several reasons and then put all the research data research phenomenon on to the reason part to support your arguments and countering the quote at the same time. Seems like you just did a bad thing, you let that author down and from disagreement with his article you rise yourself up.But this is a really efficient manner. And I think I will give the same example which I gave in my “forwarding” blog. The link is here http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/11/us/politics/obama-to-renew-drive-for-cuts-in-nuclear-arms.html?hp. The author first quate Obama’s speech and did some report on the cuts of unclear arms. But on the other side, he questioned if Obama really gonna cut off most of the unclear attack in such a serious international situation.And he also mentioned the wars that united states had been involved in and the casualties may force the government to remake choices and plans.

Forwarding, the first time I heard this word I thought this is a word using on social medias. Its quite similar to what we do every day on Facebook, you know like share something very interesting or share some news on Twitter.Just like share. But after I read the “Forwarding” chapter. I found out that this word is much more formal than what I thought. The writer Harris’s idea of forwarding is like, in writings( including academic writing, blog writing, research papers or literature books), people forwarding other people’s texts, ideas, statements,or even conclusions into their writings and publish it in order to persuade a third reader. Well I will give an example that blogs can use as an text that forwarding in people’s academic writings that help them to state their points.For example I read a news on NY time. The title is “Obama Forwarding the official speaking from Obama, and it used as “extending”. All the news report base on the Obama’s speech so this kind of forwarding is extending, editor put his own spin on the terms or concepts that he took from other texts.The other three ways doing forwarding is Illustrating, Authorizing, and Borrowing. We need these forwarding skills in our academic writing a lot.

This article by Jeff Jarvis is really thoughtful and meaningful. After reading this article about the modern news mode. I thought for a while, kind of close my eyes and check if the situation in my daily life is the same as the thing Jarvis described in his article.And that was 100% the same.Yes, the news online is more likely being diversified and linked together. Review every time whenever we check out some news that we really care about on Facebook or New york time, did we stopped by just over all the the progress of the matter?No, we always click on some links that are related to the major news, these links may including the back ground of the main character, the videos of when the journalist was interviewing, or some comment from other famous persons.All these informations are related to each other, the editor plan the news plate like this in order to make readers multifaceted understanding of all aspects of the news. And this is the trend of modern news medias, all the news together make up an online data base and pull all related news, comments, videos out and publish them together. This is smart and comprehensive.Even on the New york time, the serious problem of gun control have 156 related links, and I think this is one of the reason people are more likely to choose look up news online.

New york time, one of the biggest news medias in the united states. I read it not that often, I usually read the new york time one per two days in this term , and at first I was just read some big news from the big titles of the front page just like mechanically complete my homework, cause its part of our daily thing in this quarter.But, things changed since the second week when i read about a news that is really interesting, Its a small title and not that important, that news is about the research of sports people’s regular life time and compare athlete engaged in different sports and form thousands of data of athletes. The researcher statistical out the results: The more strenuous sports athlete playing the less their life would be.The reason is obvious :The damage to the body of playing basketball is much more serious than playing table tennis. And I was so into it that after reading this interesting news I began to thought about like why the New york time is so famous and be the top media in the united states, and I began to read news more deep inside, I found out that each news published by New york time have sufficient basis, and none of them are by guessing or forecast, that’s the part in comments area.Not only official, The well organize of each news are also wonderful for us to draw. 

Well, I get a lot of things from other's blog, and I didn't think that much. Now I got a much more deeply acknowledge about news in terms of literacy.Firstly, when I listed out like where I get news from, I forgot to mention the social medias, cause the first thing in my head when I heard news is official news from several news medias. I neglected the news from the spreading fastest place: facebook and twitter.And the superiority of news on society medias are not only the fast speed, but also the extensive and the commentary.Extensive make the increase of the impact of the news.and commentary make the whole people in your friends community able to talk about the news together, and explore different points and we can also see some comment from some famous critics, that may change our attitude of the news and get a much more deeply acknowledge of the news not only the surface like what happened last night on the street and we know more about how news influence our society, and what part of the news give us revelations. That is important.

It depends that where I get different kinds of news. I love sports a lot and I always follow some teams’ first-hand information, like my best soccer team is Manchester United and I usually want to know the good news of the team like Roony got 3 goals in the league this round or some awesome players joined in MU team. And the important thing is, as fast as I can get the information. So mostly those news I get from the internet or the websites from my cellphone. And some other news like Global big event or some new announcement of the law, for these kind of news I usually choose to read newspapers and from the radio. Because they are official and objective. And there are some other kinds of news like some issues in society .I usually get them from the internet or from the television because the other people's comments are still very constructive and active, they might give me some revelation in my daily life.
